Under the Lea, Acrylic on Canvas, 75 x 95 cm

My solo exhibition of abstract paintings is now open until the end of December 2023 at Jane Newbery gallery

Location: Jane Newbery Gallery, 84 Dulwich Village, London, SE21 7AJ

Dates: 9th November - 22nd December 2023

Opening reception: Saturday 25th November 2-5pm.

Opening Hours: Monday - Saturday 9.30 am - 17.30 pm, Sunday 11.30 am - 4.30 pm

The exhibition features work from my latest “Re-Configurations” series using acrylic paint on canvas as well as a selection of works in oil and varnish on wood. The exhibition marks a turning point from my earlier multi-layered imaginary landscape paintings. Working in acrylic has offered a fresh perspective for me in terms of composition and mark making, and has inspired me to use new techniques and play with brush strokes.

There is an immediacy to acrylic which enables quick thinking and spontaneity. Gestures and sensations come to play directly on the surface of the canvas, in a similar way to drawing. I draw inspiration from what I sees and feel around me, creating compositions that are in a constant state of flux, developing and morphing as they go. Bodies, figures, spaces and places emerge in these works, and through the physicality of making marks, I begin to learn who and what these entities are, where they are going and what they may become.
