Ruptured Atlas: Creative Mapping of Yazidi Odeyssey of Home, Displacement, Migration and Return

I am currently working on a project together with Sana Murrani (University of Plymouth) using creative participatory mapping and storytelling techniques, to create an atlas of journeys and experiences of Yazidi people who fled from ISIS atrocities in Northern Iraq in 2015. This project is close to my heart, not only because it is about mapping subjectivities and spatial imaginings, but also because it builds on my own fond memories of my encounters with a group of Yazidi refugees, and a project I worked on whilst I was artist in residence in Batman at the time.

We will be working with a selected group of participants, exploring mixed media approaches, through a series of workshops and focussed interviews to develop a multimodal atlas, which we will present later this year. More info to follow!
