Fragments

Imagine that each painting is a fragment of a bigger picture, which continues beyond the frame.

When I was about 12 or 13, I read Philip Pullman’s “The Subtle Knife”, which had a lasting impression on me. In the book, the protagonists find a knife which they discover can be used to cut holes through into a parallel world. In a sense, I see all of my paintings as windows or doorways into another world, and this is particularly apparent with the shaped paintings. The edge of the painting marks the edge of the window, but it is just the start of the world outside.
